If you don’t see your question here please feel free to contact me:
What’s the idea?
Who are you?
Is this a joke?
Aren’t you exploiting the fact that you’re in a wheelchair?
How did you come up with the idea?
Why should I buy your pixels?
Do you really need $100K?
What will you do with the money?
Why can't I buy one single pixel?
How long will the site be online?
What will you do once you start fishing?
WHAT’S THE IDEA?
The idea is simple: Try to make enough money to live the dream of fishing bass tournaments by selling 1,000,000 pixels for 10¢ each. The main motivation for doing this is to pay for the cost of a boat/motor/trailer/electronics, and other costs incurred in tournament fishing.
So, everyone is welcome to buy my pixels, which are available in 100-pixel “blocks” (each block measuring 10x10 pixels). You will see the homepage is divided into 10,000 of these 100-pixel blocks (hence there are 1,000,000 pixels in total). The reason for selling them in 100-pixel blocks is because anything smaller would be too small to display anything legibly.
You can buy as many pixels blocks as you like, as long as there are some available. When you buy pixels, you can then display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image link through to your own website. However, no obscene or offensive images are allowed.
The pixels you buy will be displayed on the homepage till at least November 2010. The homepage will not change. I have pre-paid for the domain name and hosting for 5 years, I guarantee to keep it online for at least 5 years, but hopefully much longer. So, in the long run, The pixels will offer great value that can provide a substantial return on your investment.
WHO ARE YOU?
My name is Roy Randolph and I’m a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair, and an avid tournament angler that’s trying to get back into the sport of bass fishing. I have organized many tournaments in the past specializing in charity tournaments for the Children’s Miracle Network and the Paralyzed Veterans of America. A few years back I set my sights on tournament fishing as a living for myself and after a few years of donating my entry fees to the winners I was beginning to pull it all together when my finances caught up to me and I found myself with a couple of maxed out credit cards, and a handful of medical bills. So, I had to sell the boat and pay off as many bills as I could and spend the last year just paying bills (didn’t wet a line all year) Now that I'm debt free I want to get back to the thing I love most "Bass Fishing"
IS THIS A JOKE?
No, I’m a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair with a love for tournament fishing. Now there’s no good way to prove this so I suggest you visit some websites and or call some of the local tournament organizations and ask them about me. Since I’m a unique individual, most will remember me just by name, and if not ask about the angler in a wheelchair.

AREN’T YOU EXPLOITING THE FACT THAT YOU’RE IN A WHEELCHAIR?
Darn right I am! Life in a wheelchair is a minute by minute struggle and even the smallest thing we take for granted needs to be handled like a military operation. So if I can exploit this in some small manner I’m sorry but I’m going to try! Now don’t get me wrong, ask anyone that knows me. I don’t take advantage of my condition often, and I look at life as something to enjoy rather than a struggle. But I love bass fishing and the thrill you get from tournament fishing, and life is just not the same without it so that’s why we’re here at this point.
HOW DID YOU GET THIS IDEA?
I’m not the first to come up with this idea, the first was a student in England trying to raise tuition money for university. Once people started to notice he was making a ton of money selling pixels for one dollar per pixels, there have been a lot of copies, (I’m one), but most of the copies don’t have a good cause, just greed.
WHY SHOULD I BUY YOUR PIXELS?
Besides being part of what I hope you consider a good cause!
This is some of the lowest cost advertising on the internet for a website with this much traffic!
The site was launched on November 17th, 2005 and I have purchased the domain name and hosting for 5 years. The pixels you buy will be displayed on the homepage permanently, the homepage will not change. I guarantee to keep it online for at least 5 years, but hopefully much longer. So, in the long run, I believe the pixels will offer great value that can provide a substantial return on your investment.
Pixel ads, a fairly new but effective form of advertising offer advertisers the opportunity to place a graphic ad on a web page while also utilizing search placement strategies to provide additional long term benefits for the advertisers. By adding an “alt tag” to the graphic, advertisers are able to provide a 50 word description of their site when a mouse passes over the graphic. Additionally a text list version of advertisers and their links is also provided off of the home page. The concept by itself offers definitive value to advertisers but when you ad the fact that FishingPixels.Com will be catering to fishing and fishing related sites. The closely related “fishing” content on the site will offer great search improvement potential for the advertisers.
In two short weeks FishingPixels.Com had already been indexed in major search engines and has seen its Alexa.Com (an internet ranking service) rating jump over 1,000,000 spots. I have also secured promotional commitments with internet marketing and advertising companies that specialize in servicing the fishing, hunting, outdoor and sports industries that have committed to help promote my project.
This is the first “Fishing” version of this type of site (that I know of), and add to that I’m asking for 10¢ a pixel rather then $1 per pixel, (1/10 of the cost). As you can see, I’m not looking to make a million dollars, just enough to buy a boat and get back into tournament fishing.
$1 dollar per pixel
$100
 |
10 Cents per pixel
$90 dollars
 |
$1 dollar per pixel 10 Cents per pixel$100 dollars $90 dollars
Next, if you buy $500 or more you get 20% extra pixels.
DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU NEED $100,000.00?
Even though it cost that much to fish a B.A.S.S or FLW series for one year, I don’t anticipate selling all the pixels at full price, with bonus pixel offers I don’t see the site ever earning that much. But the expenses incurred just to fish competitively even in local and regional tournaments are very costly. And since I’m on Social Security there’s no way that my SS checks and the little money I make creating websites will ever allow me to make that goal.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE MONEY?
I will use the money to help offset the cost of a new boat/motor/trailer/electronics, etc. needed to compete in Bass fishing tournaments. Hopefully the media exposure from this site will allow me to obtain some good sponsors and between the sponsors and the income from this site I can manage to keep myself going for a long time and maybe even earn a seat at the big boys table in the larger events.
WHY CAN’T I BUY ONE PIXEL?
You can't display anything legible in one pixel - nor click on it easily - so visually, it would be meaningless. With thousands of random tiny colored dots all over the place, the homepage would be a mess.
However! If you really want to own a single pixel, there is always the option of grouping together with your friends/family/colleagues and buying a 10x10 block.
HOW LONG WILL THE SITE BE ONLINE?
For at least 5 years, I’ve pre paid for the domain name and hosting of the site for a full 5 years till November 2010. Nevertheless the goal is to keep the site running for as long as possible. So if by the end of the 5 years I have sold a good portion of the pixels I will renew the site for another 5 years.
WHAT WILL YOU DO ONCE YOU START FISHING?
I’ll be wearing a shirt at each tournament with the FishingPixel.com logo. I will also have a sticker made from the home page showing all the pixels, and display this on the passenger windshield of the boat as well as on my truck, providing you even more exposure! Not to mention the exposure this should generate from local and national media attention. |
